Queen Siobhan of the elves knows that there’s only one way to save the together. The problem? The elves fled to the Otherworld centuries ago to avoid war. Convincing them they need to join one will be no easy feat. Visions plague her as she ponders how best to sway her people. Can she put things into motion before it’s too late, or will the world itself suffer the consequences of their inaction?

Jada McCrary's short story pulls you into a world where loyalty is a luxury. And secrets are weapons.
A Queen who loves her people, and fights for them. Check.
A husband's past, used as a weapon. Check.
Lies that'll make your blood boil? Absolutely.
This is my first time reading fantasy by Jada McCrary. It's a well-written short story about a Queen who wants only what's best for her people.
SPOILER ALERT:
I particularly enjoyed seeing how the Queen expressed herself in these moments:
1. When she fully commits to her role as Queen to protect the elves.
2. During a meeting, she became upset and angry when she discovered the reasons behind the opposition to her rule.
3. When an elf woman (she's against the Queen) mentions her husband.
As someone who is emotionally invested in stories, I felt a pang of sadness when the elf woman used the Queen's beloved husband against her. It made me wonder what happened to him and why it affected the Queen so deeply. Those lies the elf woman used to make the Queen look bad really got to me. I'm really curious why she did that. I wanted to know her motives. Thankfully, the Queen's ambassador is a loyal and understanding ally.
I'm glad I read this short story. I hope the Queen's plans are successful and benefit everyone. Bring positive results, you know... It's a relief that they now know who their enemies are and who wants them to fail.
I think I must read the author's short stories in the fae-blessed series to gain a deeper understanding of the characters.
